Gregory Deon Scott, a 29-year-old Black man from Houston, Texas, tragically lost his life on May 5, 2022. He was fatally shot in the Westchase area of Houston, specifically in a parking lot located at 2339 South Kirkwood Road. The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m., and despite efforts to save him, Scott was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Houston Police Department officers responded to the scene and found Scott with gunshot wounds.
Surveillance video from the area captured a man, described as a Black individual in his mid-20s, who was seen fleeing the scene in a black Infinity SUV. The man was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, dark-colored jeans, and red shoes. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the identity of the shooter was unknown at the time.
In the aftermath of the shooting, HPD launched an investigation to identify the suspect. On September 6, 2022, Robert Taylor, a 34-year-old man, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Scott's death. Taylor was identified as the suspect through further investigation, and he was subsequently charged in the 228th State District Court.
The case drew significant attention from the community and law enforcement, as efforts were made to bring justice for Gregory Deon Scott. The investigation highlighted the importance of surveillance footage in solving crimes and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement to apprehend suspects.
Gregory Deon Scott is remembered by his family and friends as a loving father, son, and brother. He is survived by his mother, Marlo Celestine, his children, and numerous other family members. His passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew him, and his memory continues to be honored by those who loved him.
