Four-year-old male Mahsaan Kelley-Wilson was a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, who tragically lost his life during the early morning hours of June 20, 2016. The young boy had spent the preceding day celebrating Father's Day at a family barbecue and was traveling in the back seat of his parents' vehicle as they made their way home. Shortly before 2:00 a.m., the family unknowingly drove into a violent exchange of gunfire near the intersection of Eighth Street and The Paseo.
As the
vehicle moved through the area, a bullet from the gunfight between two other cars pierced the family's car and struck Mahsaan. The driver immediately rushed the child to Truman Medical Center in a desperate bid to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. There were three other individuals inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, but no other physical injuries were reported among the passengers.
The investigation revealed that the family was innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire of a shootout involving two separate vehicles.
