In the late hours of September 4, 2017, just two days before his 28th birthday, Kendrick D. Anderson, a father of three, was driving in Kansas City, Missouri, when his life was tragically cut short. He was heading towards Swope Park, traveling south on U.S. 71 near Meyer Boulevard, when another vehicle reportedly pulled alongside his black Kia Optima and unleashed a barrage of gunfire.
The bullets tore through Anderson's car, striking him and a passenger.
The force of the attack caused Anderson to lose control of his vehicle, which then crashed. When police responded to the scene of the wreck, they discovered that Anderson had been fatally shot. The passenger in his car sustained a gunshot wound to the arm but survived the ordeal. In the immediate aftermath, this individual, along with other potential witnesses at the scene, reportedly fled. Investigators believe that some of these individuals were friends of Anderson and were also on their way to the same destination.
