Gregory Duane Shead Jr., a 24-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically passed away on August 14, 2022, in Houston, Texas. He was born on September 9, 1997, to Gregory D. Shead Sr. and Medisha Bush in Baytown, Texas. Gregory was known for his kind-hearted nature and left behind a host of close relatives and friends who cherished his memory.
Gregory's death occurred outside the Bowlero bowling alley on Bunker Hill Road in Houston.
He was with his family, including his girlfriend, mother, and aunt, when an altercation broke out between two groups of people. Gregory attempted to de-escalate the situation and even tried to help his aunt who was involved in the fight. Unfortunately, during the altercation, Dionate Desmond Banks, a 31-year-old man from Dallas, shot Gregory in the back and then in the head, resulting in his death.
Banks initially claimed that the shooting was in self-defense, but surveillance video and witness testimonies contradicted his account. Banks was convicted of Gregory's murder in a six-day trial and sentenced to 63 years in prison. The court found that Gregory was not holding a firearm and was trying to break up the fight when he was shot.
The case drew significant attention, and Gregory's family has been vocal about seeking justice for his death. They have expressed their grief and hope that the lengthy prison sentence for Banks will bring some measure of peace and closure.
Gregory's legacy lives on through the memories of those who knew him and the impact he had on their lives. His family continues to honor his memory and seek justice for the loss they have endured.
