Daniel Deshawn Brown, a 35-year-old Black man from Houston, Texas, was last seen alive on January 25, 2022, near the 5000 block of Washington Avenue. His mother filed a missing person's report with the Houston Police Department two days later, believing foul play may have been involved. During the investigation, police discovered that Brown was last seen with Trevyon Tellis, 27, at Tellis' residence located at 2121 McIlhenny Street. Investigators believe Brown was shot to death at the location around 10 p.m.
Trevyon Tellis was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with Brown's death. Tellis admitted to his involvement during an interview with detectives, claiming he shot Brown during a fight and disposed of his body, though he could not provide the location. Surveillance video from a neighbor's home showed Tellis and Brown entering Tellis' home, and the sound of gunshots was heard within seconds. A search warrant for Tellis' home revealed bullet holes in the entryway, Brown's identification, credit cards, and a watch. Tellis also pawned multiple items of jewelry that Brown was wearing the night he disappeared.
Despite extensive searches, Brown's body has not yet been recovered. Human remains found in a wooded area in northwest Houston are believed to be Brown's, but the identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Tellis' bond was set at $200,000, and he faces a capital murder charge. Brown's family continues to seek justice and closure, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts and safe return of Brown.
