Deputy Sheriff Hinton Sasely, of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee, was shot and killed on October 28, 1906, in Ripley, TN. Sasely and several other deputies were attempting to raid a home where illegal gambling was taking place shortly before midnight. As they approached the home, one of the men inside drew a gun and opened fire, killing Sasely instantly. The shooter was taken into custody and held overnight in a cabin.
