On a Tuesday, the 7th of September in 2021, the life of 40-year-old Sedric Bernard Rogers Sr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. He was discovered on the porch of a residence located in the 400 block of West McFarlin Avenue in Henning, Tennessee, having been fatally shot. An autopsy later confirmed that Rogers died from gunshot wounds to his head and left thigh.
A joint investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office led to the identification of four suspects. In December 2021, a Lauderdale County Grand Jury returned indictments against Latonio Grandberry, Chrishun Taylor, Joshua Taylor, and Corridirus Qualls. The charges were extensive and included first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and numerous other offenses related to the incident.
The investigation determined that on the morning of the shooting, Latonio Grandberry, Chrishun Taylor, Joshua Taylor, and Corridirus Qualls were together in a car. At Qualls' direction, they drove to West McFarlin Avenue. Upon spotting Rogers, who was also known as "Tojo," Qualls expressed his intent to shoot him. As they drove past the home, multiple shots were fired from the vehicle. Qualls was subsequently found guilty by a jury of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, and other related charges for his role in the death of Sedric Rogers and the endangerment of others present at the scene.
