Kristian Gaona, an 18-year-old Hispanic/Latino male, was walking along Ashcroft in far southwest Houston on November 12, 1995, with three friends when a black, newer-model SUV rolled up beside them. Someone inside the vehicle started verbally harassing the group, a brief, ugly exchange that turned one-sided when Gaona didn’t answer back.
