In the quiet town of Afton, Tennessee, the life of 17-year-old Katie Nicole Key was tragically cut short in a harrowing murder-suicide. The devastating events unfolded on a Monday night when 29-year-old Jason Lynn McCamey of Morristown forcibly entered the Key residence by firing a shotgun through a sliding glass door.
Once inside, McCamey took the high school senior hostage, barricading himself and the young woman in a second-floor bedroom.
The bedroom doors were ominously secured from the inside with a rope. Throughout the night, law enforcement officers attempted to negotiate with McCamey, but their efforts were tragically in vain. Shortly before 2 a.m., the sound of gunshots emanated from the house.
Upon breaching the bedroom, officers discovered a grim scene. Both Katie Key and Jason McCamey had been shot.
