Latre Lillard, a 19-year-old male from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was killed in a double murder on the night of January 29, 2014. The bodies of Lillard and his cousin, 19-year-old Andre Chesterfield, were discovered in the parking lot of a Walmart on Old Fort Parkway at approximately 11 p.m. A witness found the two young men lying face down on the ground with a significant amount of blood near their heads and shattered glass scattered nearby.
The subsequent investigation into the homicides
pointed to two brothers, Danarius Coleman, 19, and Demetrius Coleman, 21. Originally from Chicago but living in the Nashville area, the Colemans allegedly planned to rob the victims during a drug transaction. According to court testimony from his girlfriend, Danarius Coleman had described the planned robbery as an 'easy takedown' and later confessed to her that he had killed two people. He also showed her a video of the scene on his cell phone and arrived at his apartment with a bloody garbage bag.
The brothers were apprehended shortly after the murders. Danarius Coleman was arrested on February 5, 2014, at his apartment in Antioch, while Demetrius Coleman was taken into custody two weeks later in Chicago. Authorities located the vehicle the suspects used, which had been burned and abandoned. Both Danarius and Demetrius Coleman were charged with two counts of first-degree murder, felony murder, especially aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
