Derrick Glasper, a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally wounded on September 6, 2014, in what was described as an accidental shooting. The incident unfolded in the Frayser neighborhood at a Mapco Gas Station, where Glasper was sitting in the driver's seat of a Ford Explorer.
In the back seat, his friends, 19-year-old Vinell Ayers and another individual, Fontaine Craft, were reportedly playing with a handgun.
The playful handling of the weapon took a tragic turn when the gun discharged, striking Glasper in the back and upper chest. Despite being rushed to the Regional Medical Center, his injuries proved to be fatal. The immediate aftermath saw a swift response from law enforcement, leading to the arrest of Vinell Ayers later that same day.
