In the autumn of 2014, the life of 30-year-old Joshua Simpson was tragically cut short in Clarksville, Tennessee. On October 1st, police responded to a call of shots fired at a residence on Jack Miller Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found Simpson suffering from gunshot wounds sustained during what appeared to be a burglary. He was quickly transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The assailants had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, leaving a complex investigation in their wake.
For months, the case remained a painful mystery for Simpson's family and the Clarksville community. Then, a break in the investigation led to the indictment of Lynwood J. Davis for felony murder and aggravated burglary. This was just the beginning of a series of arrests that would untangle a web of conspiracy surrounding Simpson's death. The Montgomery County Grand Jury handed down further indictments, bringing more individuals to face justice for their alleged roles in the fatal home invasion.
Among those subsequently charged were Erica Evans, RC Eason, and Leonard Tyrone Talley. The charges against them were extensive, including felony murder, criminal responsibility for a felony, especially aggravated burglary, and especially aggravated robbery. In a somber twist, one of the men charged was Jerome Simpson, identified as the victim's second cousin. The numerous charges of felony murder against the suspects stemmed from the allegation that the killing occurred during the commission of two separate felonies: aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. The series of arrests brought a measure of progress in a case that had deeply affected the community, though it could not erase the violent loss of Joshua Simpson.
