In the winter of 2012, the life of 25-year-old Brandon Davone Rushing, a Black/African American male from Clarksville, TN, was tragically cut short. Rushing was reported missing on January 24, 2012, and was last seen driving his 2006 Chevy Suburban. The events that led to his death began to unfold on January 23rd when he received a call from an acquaintance, Verchaunt Joshua Williams, also known as "Blue," summoning him to a Clarksville apartment.
It was there that Williams shot Rushing in the head.
The grim discovery of Rushing's fate came on February 16, 2012, when a burnt-out Chevy Suburban was found in a field off McAdoo Creek. Inside the vehicle were human remains, which were later identified as Brandon Davone Rushing. The investigation revealed that after the murder, Williams enlisted the help of two other men, Jeffery Mac Jackson and Ojawaine Joemese Marbury, to dispose of Rushing's body and vehicle. The three men, who had known Rushing for several years, took his body and his Suburban to the secluded field and set them on fire in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The ensuing investigation by the Clarksville Police Department, led by Detective Tim Finley, quickly identified the three men responsible. Verchaunt Joshua Williams was charged with criminal homicide. Jeffery Mac Jackson and Ojawaine Joemese Marbury were both charged with accessory after the fact. Williams was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. For these crimes, he received a life sentence in prison. The cases against Jackson and Marbury moved through the legal system, with reports suggesting that Marbury's case may have been dismissed after a later review. The motive for the murder was believed to be related to a dispute over drugs and money.
