Just after the New Year began in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on January 1, 2015, the life of 24-year-old Deoaunte M. Dean was tragically cut short. A Black male and father of four, Dean was inside his home on Dorris Street when he was fatally shot. The incident was one of three separate shootings that marked a violent start to the new year in the city.
Neighbors recalled hearing gunshots in the early morning hours, a sound that shattered the peace of the otherwise quiet community.
Friends and family were left reeling, struggling to comprehend the sudden and violent loss of a man they described as a devoted father. Tragically, it was reported that Dean's children were present in the home at the time of the shooting. His childhood friend remembered him as a good person who was well-liked and not involved in any trouble that would explain such an act.
In the immediate aftermath, the Chattanooga Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Detectives processed the scene at his home, marked by a broken window, and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a suspect.
