In the late afternoon of April 12, 2015, a sense of tragedy befell a neighborhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Sixteen-year-old Kentrell Provens, a Black male, was walking along Germantown Road when the sound of a gunshot shattered the day's calm. Provens was struck once in the chest. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the young man was rushed to a nearby hospital with a life-threatening injury. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his wound that evening.
