In the late hours of a September evening in Knoxville, Tennessee, a birthday celebration turned into a scene of tragedy, forever altering the lives of a local family. Cara Crowder Jr., a 23-year-old male, was attending a birthday party on Jefferson Avenue in the early morning of September 16, 2015. An argument broke out between Crowder and another man at the gathering, escalating with swift and fatal consequences.
The dispute culminated in gunfire, and Crowder was struck in the chest.
First responders found him lying in the street. He was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but the efforts to save his life were unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries. The man who shot him was identified as Ty-Ray Earl Webb, who was 26 years old at the time. In a tragic twist, the party was being held for Webb himself.
Following the shooting, Webb fled the scene. A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for his arrest. The day after the shooting, Webb turned himself in to law enforcement authorities near Dayton, Ohio. He was subsequently extradited back to Knoxville to face the charges against him.
Webb's case proceeded through the legal system, and he was ultimately convicted of second-degree murder for the death of Cara Crowder Jr. The court sentenced him to 40 years in prison for the violent end to what should have been a joyous occasion.
