In the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 23, 2021, the life of 24-year-old Carlos Sweeney was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville Police Department officers were dispatched to an apartment on Longview Road around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a disconnected 911 call. While on their way, a second call came in reporting a gunshot victim at the same location.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an open apartment door and found Carlos Sweeney inside, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators with the KPD Violent Crimes Unit do not believe the shooting was a random act. They suspect that the individuals responsible fled the scene in a vehicle. Authorities have publicly requested assistance from the community, asking anyone with video footage from Sutherland Avenue, Forest Park Boulevard, Forest Hills Boulevard, or Longview Road between 4:20 a.m. and 4:50 a.m. on the morning of the shooting to come forward.
Despite the ongoing investigation and pleas for information, no suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody in connection with the murder of Carlos Sweeney. The case remains an unsolved homicide, and the Knoxville Police Department continues to seek any information that could lead to an arrest and bring justice for Sweeney and his family. A cash reward has been offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
