In the autumn of 2022, the life of 23-year-old Robby Jarell Mathews was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. On the morning of October 8th, Mathews was at a residence on Linden Avenue. Shortly after stepping outside the home, multiple gunshots rang out. Mathews was struck, and he managed to make his way back inside the house before collapsing. He was rushed to the UT Medical Center, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The Knoxville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts soon focused on a suspect: 22-year-old Aman McCutchen, also of Knoxville. A little over a week after the fatal shooting, on October 19th, investigators executed a search warrant at McCutchen's home on Parkview Avenue. During the search, a loaded handgun was discovered. Subsequent forensic analysis determined that this was the weapon used in the shooting death of Robby Mathews.
Following the discovery of the firearm, Aman McCutchen was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Robby Jarell Mathews.
