In the late summer of 2021, the life of 19-year-old Cholly Demarcus Lamont Harris Jr. was tragically cut short on a street in Knoxville, Tennessee. On the evening of September 20th, a dispute in the 1700 block of Hazen Street escalated to gunfire. Harris was struck at least once during the altercation. He was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, the Knoxville Police Department detained several
individuals who were at the scene, including witnesses and a potential male suspect. Despite the detentions for questioning, no charges have been filed in connection with Harris's death. The case was handed over to the Knox County District Attorney's Office to evaluate whether a prosecution is warranted.
