In the early morning hours of November 13, 2015, a tragic series of events unfolded in Chattanooga, Tennessee, leading to the death of 21-year-old Peyton James Hogan. A 2013 graduate of Red Bank High School who also attended Chattanooga State Technical Community College, Hogan was known for his skills as a truck mechanic and craftsman. More than his mechanical abilities, he was remembered for his generosity, loyalty, and deep love for his family and many friends.
The circumstances that
led to his untimely death began with a deceptive social media exchange. Shaina Hughes, then 18, used Facebook to lure Hogan to a residence on Frazier Drive with the promise of a sex-for-drugs exchange. Unbeknownst to Hogan, this was a setup for a robbery orchestrated by Hughes and her accomplice, 19-year-old Quincy Goodine.
Upon his arrival at the Frazier Drive home at approximately 4:15 a.m., Hogan was confronted by Goodine, who demanded he surrender his belongings. During this confrontation, Goodine fired a. 25 caliber pistol, striking Hogan once in the chest. Despite his grave injury, Hogan managed to make his way back upstairs before collapsing near his truck. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Following an investigation into the shooting, both Quincy Goodine and Shaina Hughes were apprehended. They faced serious charges, including felony murder and especially aggravated robbery. The case against them proceeded to the Grand Jury, marking the beginning of the legal process to bring justice for the death of Peyton Hogan, whose life was cut short in a planned act of violence.
