On the evening of November 24, 2015, a tragic event unfolded in the Alton Park neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee, that claimed the life of Monica Sherri McMillon, a 37-year-old Black woman. Ms. McMillon was inside her home on Highland Avenue when she was fatally shot in what has been described as a drive-by shooting. Although there were children present in the house at the time of the incident, she was the only person struck by the gunfire.
According to witness accounts, a vehicle
pulled up in front of the residence around 6 p.m. An individual reportedly exited the car and fired approximately 13 shots into the home, striking and killing Ms. McMillon. Neighbors have suggested that she was not the intended target of the attack. Witnesses described seeing a white vehicle with two Black men at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, the Chattanooga Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Despite their efforts and the witness descriptions of the vehicle and its occupants, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains unsolved, leaving a grieving family and community searching for answers and justice for the mother of three.
