In the winter of 2016, the life of 29-year-old John Marshall 'John-John' Kyle was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. On the afternoon of January 4th, Kyle was fatally shot in what was later described by authorities as a dispute over a drug debt.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to Ricky Allen Davis Jr., who was also 29 at the time. Believed to be a member of the Crips street gang, Davis became the primary suspect in Kyle's murder.
Following the circulation of his identity as a person of interest, Davis chose to surrender to the Knox County Sheriff's Office. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of John Kyle.
In February 2018, Ricky Allen Davis Jr. stood trial for the murder. After hearing the evidence presented by the prosecution, a jury found him guilty of both first-degree murder and the weapons charge. As a result of the conviction, the court imposed a mandatory life sentence for the murder of John Marshall Kyle. An appeal of the conviction was later filed on behalf of Davis, but in 2021, the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the original judgment, ensuring that he would continue to serve his life sentence.
