On a Sunday evening in Grand Junction, Tennessee, the life of 36-year-old Demetrius Hoyle was tragically cut short. It was around 9:30 p.m. on May 8, 2016, on Tippah Street when the fatal shooting occurred. In a desperate plea for help, the driver of the vehicle Hoyle was a passenger in flagged down a state trooper at the intersection of Highway 57 and Tippah Street, reporting that his passenger had been shot.
Law enforcement from the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office and the Grand
Junction Police Department quickly responded to the scene, where they found Demetrius Hoyle deceased. An investigation into the shooting was launched by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office.
Through their investigation, authorities identified Marco Dewayne Jenkins, a 37-year-old man from Grand Junction, as the individual responsible for Hoyle's death. The morning after the shooting, Jenkins turned himself in to TBI agents at the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Following his arrest, Jenkins was booked into the Hardeman County Jail.
