In the spring of 2016, a young man's life was cut tragically short in a violent encounter in Antioch, Tennessee. Johnny Broadnax Jr., a 21-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on May 14, 2016, near the management office of the Hickory Manor Apartments on Hamilton Church Road. After being struck in the chest by gunfire, Broadnax attempted to escape in his SUV but crashed into the side of one of the apartment buildings.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he ultimately died from his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a dark gray, possibly Dodge Charger, with two black racing stripes and tinted windows speeding away after the gunshots rang out. When Metro Nashville Police Department officers arrived, they discovered Broadnax lying in the grass near his crashed vehicle. The initial investigation pointed to a prearranged drug deal that had turned deadly.
The investigation led to the arrest of Dameisha Clark, then 20, in June 2016. She was charged with criminal homicide. Investigators determined that Clark had arranged the drug deal with Broadnax and was driving a stolen Dodge Charger from which the fatal shots were fired. More than a year later, in October 2017, the Davidson County grand jury indicted a second suspect in the case. William Alexander Sigsby, 21 at the time, was charged with first-degree felony murder and especially aggravated robbery. Detectives concluded that Sigsby was also present in the car during the shooting. Police indicated that the investigation remained ongoing to determine if any other individuals should face charges in connection with the murder.
