In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 21-year-old Juan Jackson was tragically cut short. On June 1, 2016, police responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Tahoe Road and Double Tree Road in the southwest part of the city. Upon their arrival, they discovered Juan Jackson lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the city's 94th homicide of the year quickly led to a person of interest. Law enforcement officials took 29-year-old Raymond Watison into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Watison was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder for his alleged role in Juan Jackson's death. He was booked into the Shelby County Jail to await legal proceedings.
During the subsequent trial in January 2018, it was revealed that Juan Jackson had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The Shelby County Grand Jury had indicted Raymond Watison on the charge of first-degree premeditated murder. Following the trial, Raymond Watison was convicted for the murder of Juan Jackson. His subsequent appeal of the conviction was affirmed in a court opinion delivered on August 30, 2019.
