In the quiet community of Cottontown, Tennessee, the life of 62-year-old Marty Dale Hall, a dedicated truck driver, came to a tragic and violent end on June 15, 2016. A male, later identified as Eddy Roger Conner, had broken into Hall's residence on Highway 25 to hide from authorities following a bank robbery in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The series of events leading to the fatal encounter began when Conner, after robbing a bank, fled from police.
His accomplice, Colleen Sue Watkins, who was driving their getaway van, was apprehended by law enforcement after they used spike strips to disable the vehicle. Conner, however, managed to escape on foot and sought refuge in the nearby home of Marty Dale Hall, who was away on an overnight trucking route.
Upon his return, Hall, a man known to carry two handguns, discovered that his home had been breached. Sensing an intruder, he entered his house armed. A gunfight erupted between Hall and Conner, resulting in the deaths of both men. A neighbor, intending to play cards with Hall, discovered the grim scene and alerted the authorities.
Investigators found that numerous shots had been fired within the home. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed Conner's identity through fingerprints. It was also revealed that Conner had an extensive criminal history under various aliases and had once been featured on 'America's Most Wanted.' His accomplice, Colleen Sue Watkins, was taken into custody and faced charges related to the bank robbery.
