In the spring of 2017, the life of 17-year-old Christian Lewis, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The fatal incident occurred on the evening of March 27th in the parking lot of the Timberlake Village Apartments in Antioch, Tennessee. It was there that two separate groups had arranged to meet, a decision that would ultimately lead to bloodshed. During the encounter, shots were fired, and Christian was struck.
He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them at the hospital.
The Metro Nashville Police Department immediately launched an intensive investigation into the shooting. For months, detectives worked to piece together the events of that night and identify those responsible for Christian's death. Their efforts eventually led them to a suspect, a 20-year-old man named Raushaun Malik Hasan. On August 2, 2017, authorities moved in and arrested Hasan at his home on Neldia Court without incident. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide in connection with the fatal shooting. Despite being in custody, Hasan chose not to answer questions regarding the incident.
Following his arrest, Raushaun Malik Hasan faced the judicial process for his alleged role in Christian Lewis's death. The initial charge of felony murder was later amended to voluntary manslaughter. Hasan was ultimately convicted of this lesser charge. The resolution of the court case brought a measure of closure to a violent act that ended a young life and left a community searching for answers.
