Weeks prior, on March 29, 2017, a federal arrest warrant had been issued for Perry on charges related to crimes against children. This prompted an extensive multi-state manhunt to locate him. Investigators, through the use of sophisticated techniques, were able to track Perry to a hotel near his relatives in Nashville. The day before his death, the FBI had also offered a reward for information leading to his whereabouts, which generated several tips from the public.
