The life of Ajante Kamar Johnson, a 16-year-old male resident of St. Louis, Missouri, was tragically cut short in May 2017. Born in Sikeston, Missouri, he was the son of Rodney Johnson and the late Audrey Kay Cross. Ajante was known to his family and friends as a young man full of laughter and joy, with a wonderful smile and a dedicated spirit. He had been a student at both Vashon High School and Gateway STEAM High School, where he engaged in various activities including football, track and
field, soccer, and robotics. He was also an active member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program and had expressed aspirations of pursuing a future career in the Air Force.
The circumstances surrounding his death began to unfold when he and another young man, 19-year-old Rayshaun Foster, went missing. The search for the pair ended in heartbreak on a Friday morning, May 26, 2017, when authorities discovered their bodies in a vacant lot in the 4300 block of Enright Avenue in St. Louis. Both teenagers had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, and police launched a homicide investigation into the double shooting. Reports indicated that Ajante had died on May 19, 2017, a week prior to the discovery, suggesting the victims had been deceased for some time before they were found in the overgrown lot.
Family members and the community were left to mourn the loss of a youth who had shown such promise. A memorial service was held for Ajante in early June at the New Perfect Peace Church, where loved ones gathered to cherish his memory. Despite the investigation by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department into the violence that claimed the lives of both Ajante and Rayshaun, public records from the time did not immediately identify specific suspects or announce arrests directly linked to their murders, leaving the case as a somber reminder of the impact of gun violence on the city's youth.
