In the early morning hours of August 23, 2016, a violent incident occurred in the St. Louis Place neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 17-year-old African-American male Darian Laval Knox. Police officers patrolling the north side of the city were drawn to the intersection of Hogan and Mullanphy streets shortly before 2:00 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the teenager lying unconscious on the ground, suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the chest.
