Chaztus D. “Butt Butt” Whaley Jr., a 21-year-old Black male, was shot on the evening of Friday, August 11, 2017, at a house on Co-Op Road in Rockford, Tennessee. In the hours after the gunfire, he wasn’t carried into an ambulance with lights and sirens; instead, a group of people whose names were not made public brought him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, dropped him off, and disappeared back into the night. By early Saturday morning, August 12, he was dead.
