In the summer of 2018, a meeting in a Clarksville, Tennessee apartment complex parking lot took a fatal turn, leaving a young man dead and setting off a multi-year investigation that would lead to the arrests of three individuals. The deceased was James Wells, a 30-year-old male who was found with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle on June 5, 2018, at The Verge apartments on Nolen Road. He was transported to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Wells' death revealed that the shooting occurred during a drug transaction. According to police, Wells had met with three individuals to sell heroin. During the course of the transaction, an altercation ensued, and the suspects allegedly robbed Wells of heroin and cash before shooting him in the back. The investigation quickly pointed to Shundarion Dayqwhon Taylor as a suspect. He was arrested on June 6, 2018, and charged with criminal homicide. A handgun with an expended shell casing was later found at his residence.
For several years, the case continued as investigators worked to identify the other individuals involved. In June of 2023, a Montgomery County grand jury indicted Shundarion Taylor, along with Kylando Catwan Mason and Terrance Sharell Taylor, on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Mason was taken into custody on October 4, 2023. The final suspect, Terrance Taylor, was arrested on May 16, 2024, bringing all three men accused in the death of James Wells into custody nearly six years after the incident.
