In the late hours of a Friday in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the life of 27-year-old Kevin Crayton was tragically cut short. On August 24, 2018, on Bradt Street, a burst of gunfire erupted, leaving Crayton with fatal injuries. Another individual, Itani Crayton, was also struck by the hail of bullets but survived the violent encounter.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Chattanooga police identified three individuals as suspects.
Montrell Williams, Shakeela Hubbard, and Kavion Hubbard were publicly named in connection with the incident that led to Crayton's death and the wounding of another. The investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from an argument that escalated with deadly consequences.
Within a couple of days of the shooting, authorities moved swiftly to apprehend the suspects. Montrell Williams and Shakeela Hubbard were taken into custody. Both faced serious charges, including criminal homicide for the death of Kevin Crayton and attempted first-degree murder for the injuries sustained by Itani Crayton. In addition to these charges, Williams also faced a count of unlawful possession of a firearm.
The third suspect, Kavion Hubbard, was also sought by law enforcement in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. The relationship between Shakeela and Kavion Hubbard was not immediately made clear. The swift arrests of Williams and Shakeela Hubbard marked a significant development in the case, bringing a measure of initial resolution to a community shaken by the violence. The subsequent legal proceedings would determine the ultimate accountability for the untimely death of Kevin Crayton.
