In what authorities have described as a tragic murder-suicide, 75-year-old Judith Nye was found deceased in her Farragut, Tennessee, home on Saturday, November 3, 2018. The female victim was discovered alongside her 54-year-old son, James Nye, in a duplex on Williamsburg Drive South. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office was called to the residence to conduct a welfare check after a family member had been unable to contact either Judith or James for a period of time. Upon entering the home, officers made the grim discovery. Investigators believe the deaths had occurred sometime earlier in the week, as the bodies had been in the residence 'for some time.'
Early reports from the sheriff's office indicated that the incident was being investigated as a murder-suicide. It is believed that James Nye shot and killed his mother before turning the weapon on himself. The motive for the tragic event has not been released.
Neighbors described Judith Nye as a caring mother who frequently traveled to Georgia to look after her son, who was described as 'sickly.'
