She was shot while driving a silver Chevy Malibu at the intersection of Green Lane and Whites Creek Pike. Ashanti and her friend had just left a nearby neighborhood where they had made a small marijuana sale. As they stopped at the intersection, an unknown suspect fired into their car, striking Ashanti.
Her friend, who was uninjured, managed to drive the car away from the scene and seek help.
Ashanti was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but despite medical efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The investigation revealed several shell casings at the intersection, but the exact number of suspects or their identities remains unknown. Metro Nashville Police have been actively searching for the person or people responsible for the shooting. They believe the shots could have come from either a vehicle or individuals on foot.
