Shyane Ieshia Nicole Bishop, a 27-year-old African American woman from Kingsport, Tennessee, had a vibrant smile that could light up any room she entered. A dedicated stay-at-home mother, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Her life, however, was tragically cut short in early February 2019.
On the evening of February 3, 2019, a burst of violence erupted at the Stonecrest Apartments in Kingsport. Both Shyane and a 30-year-old man named Trevor Reed were shot during the incident. While Reed succumbed to his injuries shortly after the shooting, Shyane fought for her life for two more days before passing away at Holston Valley Medical Center on February 5, 2019.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to two suspects: 19-year-old Joseph Dale Clark and 22-year-old Alexander M. Hamilton. A manhunt ensued, and the two men were apprehended in Adair County, Kentucky, the day after Shyane's death. They were subsequently extradited back to Tennessee to face charges for the killings. Initially, with Shyane still alive, warrants were issued for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, with the expectation that the charges would be amended following her death.
After years of legal proceedings, the case reached its conclusion in December 2023. Joseph Dale Clark and Alexander M. Hamilton both accepted plea agreements, pleading guilty to second-degree murder for the deaths of Shyane Bishop and Trevor Reed. Each man was sentenced to serve 20 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections, to be followed by 10 years of supervised probation.
