A 30-year-old man, Toron M. Thomas Jr., lost his life in a fatal shooting on the evening of Sunday, February 10, 2019, in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Bethel Road, where authorities believe Thomas was the target of a home invasion. Friends and family affectionately knew him as 'Mickey.'
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to Keshawn L. Spivey, who was 19 years old at the time.
Evidence gathered by Metro Police, including home surveillance footage and statements from witnesses, indicated that Spivey was present with Thomas at a social event earlier on the night of the shooting. Investigators believe the motive for the fatal encounter was robbery.
In the days following the incident, a warrant was issued for Spivey's arrest on a charge of criminal homicide. On the morning of Wednesday, February 13, 2019, Spivey turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Downtown Detention Center. A grand jury later indicted him on charges of first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. Ultimately, Keshawn Spivey entered into a plea agreement, pleading guilty to the reduced charge of second-degree murder. For his role in the death of Toron M. Thomas Jr., he was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison.
