On a warm evening in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 57-year-old Glenn Walton Cofield was tragically cut short on June 7, 2019. Cofield, a male, had just left a charity event for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with his wife. As they were getting into their car in the parking lot of the Greater Lewis Street Missionary Baptist Church, an unknown assailant approached them in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery.
A verbal altercation occurred between Cofield and the
suspect before the situation escalated, and Cofield was fatally shot in front of his wife. The shooter, described only as a male wearing a hoodie, fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle. Despite the presence of his wife and others in the vicinity who had attended the same fundraiser, the suspect managed to escape, leaving a community in shock and a family devastated.
In the days and weeks that followed, the Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into the senseless killing of the well-respected financial advisor and community leader. A significant reward, which grew to $26,000 through private donations and a contribution from CrimeStoppers, was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest. However, despite the substantial reward and pleas from Cofield's family for anyone with information to come forward, the case has grown cold. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect or suspects involved in the murder of Glenn Cofield remain at large. The case is still considered an unsolved homicide, a painful reality for a family still seeking closure and justice.
