In the Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, on the evening of September 18, 2019, the life of 28-year-old Marqual Rivers, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. Rivers and another man, Marcus Brooks, were in a common area of an apartment complex on Pendleton Street when gunfire erupted. Witnesses reported that shots were fired from vehicles that passed by the two men.
Both Rivers and Brooks were struck by the gunfire and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Memphis Police Department officers from the Airways station responded to a report of a shooting and discovered the two victims. The initial investigation suggested that the assailants fired from a possibly white Chrysler 200 and a black Infinity. Despite the immediate launch of an investigation into the double homicide, no suspects were immediately identified.
In the years that have followed, the case has remained unsolved. As of now, there have been no arrests made and no convictions in the murders of Marqual Rivers and Marcus Brooks. Law enforcement and organizations like CrimeStoppers have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
