In the autumn of 2019, a series of violent events shattered the peace of Jackson, Tennessee, culminating in the tragic death of Thomas Louis Curry, Jr. A 30-year-old man, Curry's life was cut short on October 4, 2019, a casualty of gun violence that also left another man seriously injured. The shooting occurred on Fairway Boulevard, and in the immediate aftermath, law enforcement identified and apprehended a suspect, Keenan Murphy, who was found fleeing the scene.
The investigation into
Curry's death quickly revealed a darker and more complex story. Authorities linked Murphy to another shooting that had taken place just days earlier, on September 25, 2019, on Neff Street. In that incident, one man, Julio Alvarez, was killed, and another was seriously wounded. This connection painted a grim picture of a suspect involved in multiple acts of extreme violence within a short period.
Following a thorough investigation by the Jackson Tennessee Police Department, Keenan Murphy was charged with multiple counts of First Degree Murder and Attempted Murder for his alleged roles in both the September 25 and October 4 shootings. In 2020, a Madison County Grand Jury indicted Murphy on two counts of First Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted Murder, and two counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. As of early 2025, Murphy remains incarcerated at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex, awaiting trial for the first-degree murder of Thomas Curry, Jr., as well as for the other serious charges against him.
