On a Wednesday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 33-year-old Anthony Rucker was tragically cut short. On March 4, 2020, Rucker was sitting on a motorcycle, engaged in conversation with a group of people in front of a residence in the 1800 block of Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard. The normalcy of the evening was shattered at approximately 6:30 p.m.
when a gunman, armed with a rifle, approached and opened fire on the group from a distance of about 25 yards.
In the ensuing chaos, as people scrambled to safety, Rucker was struck by the gunfire. Tragically, no one else in the group was injured. Rucker was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. The motive for the shooting remains undetermined, leaving a painful void for his family and community.
Witnesses at the scene described the shooter as a Black man with dreadlocks. He was last seen fleeing the area, running through an alley that led toward 16th Avenue North. Despite having a description of the suspected gunman, the Nashville Police Department has not yet made any arrests in connection with the murder of Anthony Rucker. The case remains an open and active investigation, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person responsible for this senseless act of violence. As of early 2021, Rucker's case was among a number of unsolved homicides in North Nashville, leaving his family still searching for answers and justice.
