In a tragic turn of events on March 13, 2020, in Memphis, Tennessee, 9-year-old Xavier Jackson lost his life. The young African American boy was at home with his 13-year-old cousin when a playful moment turned fatal. The two boys were handling a gun when it accidentally discharged, striking Xavier in the face. Their mothers were reportedly out shopping at the time of the incident, leaving the children unsupervised with the unsecured firearm.
