In the summer of 2014, a dispute between two men in Memphis, Tennessee, escalated to a fatal conclusion. Outside Sherry's Lounge in the Orange Mound area, Joseph Russell, a 41-year-old male, was involved in an altercation. The argument took a deadly turn when the other man walked to his car, retrieved a handgun, and returned to shoot Russell multiple times.
Joseph Russell was pronounced dead at the scene on August 4, 2014.
The investigation into the shooting led Memphis police to 28-year-old Larry Strickland. He was arrested in connection with the killing and subsequently charged with first-degree murder. During the investigation, police stated that Strickland provided a written confession to the shooting. Following his arrest, he was held without bond awaiting his court appearance.
