Derrick DeWayne Harris, a 32-year-old male known in the Memphis rap scene as RichLord, was fatally wounded in a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of June 10, 2018. The incident took place inside V Live, a strip club located in the 3600 block of Mendenhall Road in Memphis, Tennessee. An argument that began inside the club escalated, leading to the shooting.
Harris was critically injured and transported to Regional One Health for medical attention.
Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on June 25, 2018. Two other individuals sustained non-critical injuries during the same incident.
In the months following the shooting, the V Live club was shut down as a public nuisance. The family of Derrick Harris, represented by his estate, filed a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against the former managers of the club. The lawsuit alleged that the management failed to provide adequate security and fostered an unsafe environment by continuing to serve alcohol to intoxicated patrons, including the person who shot Harris. The club later made plans to reopen as a sports bar under new ownership and court supervision for a probationary period.
