On the evening of September 20, 2020, Nechoe Lucas, a 32-year-old Black male, was fatally shot while sitting in his parked vehicle at a gas station on East Shelby Drive and Hodge Road in Memphis, Tennessee. The incident unfolded shortly before 8 p.m. when a man, later identified as 29-year-old Khiry Turner, drove up and parked nearby. Turner then walked over to Lucas's vehicle, exchanged some words with him, and opened fire with a handgun.
Lucas was struck in the head and died at the
scene. The gunfire also critically injured a 32-year-old woman in the front passenger seat, who was shot in the stomach, and wounded a 30-year-old man in the backseat, who was hit in the hand. Miraculously, three young children in the backseat, ages three, two, and seven months, were unharmed.
Following an investigation, Khiry Turner was identified as the suspect in the shooting. Six days after the incident, he was apprehended by Leflore County Sheriff's deputies near Greenwood, Mississippi. Turner was subsequently indicted by a grand jury on multiple felony counts, including first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm with intent to commit a dangerous felony, and reckless endangerment. The case is being handled by the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.
