On a spring evening in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 19-year-old Marquavious Bryson was cut tragically short. The Black/African American male passed away on April 8, 2022, a victim of a violent encounter that unfolded at the Levi Landing Apartments in the southwest part of the city.
Bryson, in the company of Gregory Poole, had arranged to meet 19-year-old Cassell Hogan for the purpose of selling him marijuana.
The transaction, however, allegedly took a dark turn when Hogan attempted to rob them. As Bryson tried to drive away from the escalating situation, he was fatally shot in the back. Poole also sustained injuries during the attack but ultimately survived.
Emergency services rushed Bryson to Regional One Medical Center, but his wounds proved to be too severe. His death launched a homicide investigation that quickly centered on Hogan as the primary suspect.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement apprehended Cassell Hogan. He was subsequently charged with a litany of serious offenses, including first-degree murder for the death of Marquavious Bryson and attempted first-degree murder for the injuries inflicted upon Gregory Poole. The incident, which took place near the intersection of West Levi Road and Soapstone Drive, left a lasting scar on the community and the families affected by the violence.
