In the late hours of a Thursday night in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of Justin D. Divens, a 32-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On March 19, 2020, Divens was shot multiple times inside his own dark gray Dodge Charger. In a brutal sequence of events, he was then pushed out of the moving vehicle onto Old Hickory Boulevard near Gray Avenue.
A witness driving on the same road reported seeing the Dodge speeding before noticing what appeared to be muzzle flashes from inside
the car. The vehicle then slowed almost to a stop, the rear passenger door opened, and Divens's body was ejected onto the pavement. The Charger then sped away, leaving the grim scene behind. A patrol officer was flagged down in the area around 11:03 p.m. regarding the incident. Divens was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His identity was later confirmed through his fingerprints.
The investigation into the homicide of Justin D. Divens is ongoing, yet it has grown cold. His 2008 Dodge Charger, the very car in which he was murdered, was later found abandoned at the Archwood Apartments in Madison. Despite the recovery of the vehicle and witness accounts, no arrests have been made in connection with his death. The Nashville Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information from the public, urging anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. A memorial service was held for Divens on April 4, 2020, as his family and friends mourned the violent loss of his life.
