In the early hours of March 30, 2020, a dispute that began between two women over a man escalated into deadly violence in Antioch, Tennessee, claiming the life of 24-year-old Chrishaun Lash. The fatal encounter unfolded around 12:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Autumn Drive after a female friend of Lash's informed him that she had been assaulted by another woman.
In response to this, Lash, a resident of Murfreesboro, and several others traveled to Autumn Drive to confront the woman responsible for the alleged assault.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the woman in a Chrysler 300, accompanied by a man. Lash approached the vehicle and began to confront the male occupant. It was during this confrontation that a single, fatal gunshot was fired. The bullet struck Lash in the neck, and the Chrysler 300 sped away from the scene immediately following the shooting. Lash was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injury proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
In the wake of the shooting, Metro Nashville Police Department's South Precinct detectives identified 37-year-old James Mahoney as a person of interest in the case. They believed he had crucial knowledge regarding the circumstances that led to Chrishaun Lash's death and sought to question him about the homicide. At the time he was named a person of interest, Mahoney was already a fugitive, wanted on outstanding warrants for aggravated burglary and domestic assault in connection with an attack on his former girlfriend in her home just days prior to the shooting. Authorities publicly appealed for any information regarding Mahoney's whereabouts.
