On the evening of September 29, 2023, Robert Wayne Lee II, a 40-year-old male from Pontiac, Michigan, was fatally shot inside a local restaurant. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. at Universal Coney Island on North Perry Street. Lee, who was also known by his online alias 'Boopac Shakur,' entered the restaurant and approached two individuals, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, who were seated in a booth.
A physical altercation ensued between Lee and the 18-year-old. According to security camera footage, as the fight broke out, the 16-year-old, now 17, pulled out a semi-automatic firearm and fired multiple rounds at Lee. The two teenagers then fled the scene. Lee was transported to a nearby hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
In the days following the shooting, two suspects were taken into custody. In February 2024, the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office announced that the 17-year-old shooter had been charged as a juvenile with homicide, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm. At the time of the charges, the suspect was already in custody in connection with a separate shooting that had occurred on September 20, 2023. Prosecutors have stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the fatal confrontation was related to Lee's online activities, where he was known for posing as an underage girl to expose alleged sexual predators.
