On a tragic day in Knoxville, Tennessee, 38-year-old Ashley Marie Hurt's life was cut short. On April 28, 2020, she and her companion, 60-year-old Randolph 'Ray' Ingram, were found dead in what police described as a double homicide on East 5th Avenue. Ashley, a female, was discovered inside a residence, while Ingram was found in the street. Both had succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Known for her friendly nature and a beautiful smile that could brighten anyone's day, Ashley was a graduate of
Spring Valley High School and had spent a significant portion of her adult life in the Huntington, West Virginia area. She was a loving mother to her children, Cheyenne Hatten and Travis Hurt. Her obituary fondly remembers her as someone who was cherished by her family and friends, including her lifelong best friend, Candace Skagg.
The investigation into the double homicide led Knoxville Police to a suspect, Lamar Todd Mallett, who was 30 years old at the time. According to the arrest warrant, Mallett allegedly entered Ingram's home shortly before 12:30 a.m. and shot Hurt in the head with a handgun. He is then said to have chased Ingram out of the house and shot him multiple times in the street.
Following the investigation, Mallett was arrested and faced two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Ashley Marie Hurt and Randolph Ingram. He was booked into the Knox County Detention Center as the investigation continued.
